Visiting a dispensary for the first time? Here’s What You Should Know

We know that whether you’re visiting Silver Therapeutics from out of state or if you live here in Massachusetts, making your first trip to the dispensary can be intimidating. We feel that we are the best dispensary for first time patients because our staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and we truly look forward to answering questions. Here a few things to keep in mind for your first dispensary visit:

Can you go to more than one dispensary a day?

You are free to visit as many dispensaries as you like in a day, and you can make a purchase at all of them if you choose. However, daily purchase limits still apply. For example, you are allowed to purchase up to an ounce of flower per day. So, if you buy a half-ounce at one dispensary and visit another on the same day, you can only purchase another half an ounce of flower at the second dispensary.

Can you buy from the same dispensary twice in one day?

You sure can! If you bought what you thought you needed and decide to go back to the same dispensary, you are free to do so. There is nothing in Massachusetts state law that says you can’t go to the same dispensary more than once per day. Just keep in mind, your daily purchase limits will dictate how much you can buy. Also, some dispensaries may occasionally implement their own purchase limits for certain products that are in high demand or if there is limited availability for a certain product. For example, an in-demand strain may have limits on how many grams one customer can buy.

Do dispensaries track how much you buy in Massachusetts?

Yes. Your cannabis purchases are tracked in Massachusetts to make sure dispensaries do not oversell to customers. This information is tracked through the point-of-sale system and is based on your unique state-issued ID. Dispensary owners and employees face serious penalties if they oversell to a customer, such as fines and losing their license to sell cannabis. Sales are tracked at each dispensary, but your daily purchase information is accessible at each dispensary you visit so you are not allowed to go over the legal limits.

Other Dispensary Tips

Have Your ID Ready!

Even if you’re well above the legal age, and whether you are a medical patient or a recreational consumer of cannabis, you should always have your state-issued ID with you during your trip to the dispensary.

Make sure you have enough cash to cover your purchase.

It’s no secret that cannabis can be expensive. Especially if you want to try every form and every strain available on the dispensary menu! Most dispensaries will have an ATM for you to use, but those usually come with a fee. Make sure you bring enough cash to cover what you plan on purchasing in store.

Don’t be surprised if you have to wait in line.

Typically, there are only a certain number of patrons allowed in the store at a time. So depending on how busy the dispensary is, it may take a bit before you are actually in the store. This is normal and expected when customers are having their IDs checked, browsing products, asking questions, etc. Just be kind and respectful and you will be served as soon as possible!

Come prepared with questions!

Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have! This may be your first time, but for your friendly budtenders, it definitely is not. And they have heard it all, so don’t be afraid to ask the simplest of questions or something more complex – if a budtender can’t answer your question right away, they can always do their research and get back to you! Check out our frequently asked questions page or read up on our blog posts to see if we can answer some Q’s before you come in to the store.
