It seems as though anywhere you turn these days you everyone is talking about CBD. From your WASPY aunt at the Thanksgiving table to The New York Times and everyone in between, CBD is certainly buzzing right now.

So, the question is, what is CBD?

CBD is shorthand for cannabidiol, which is an abundant cannabinoid molecule found in the cannabis plant that has been shown to have many medical benefits. It is the second most prevalent cannabinoid behind THC, which is the cannabinoid responsible for the psychoactive feeling of being high. All cannabinoids interact with receptors that are part of our biological endocannabinoid system. Without getting too deep on the science, the endocannabinoid system helps our bodies cells maintain homeostasis and keeps our vital molecular system running an optimum performance.

Why should I take it?

CBD research has been hindered in the past due to stigmatism and lack of funding, but we are now seeing more clinical trials to test the effectiveness of CBD as a medicine to cure a variety of symptoms. CBD has been shown to be effective in the treatment of epilepsy, with the FDA approving the CBD derived drug, Epidiolex, this June. Press release can be viewed here.

CBD has also been shown to help the treatment of arthritis, diabetes, alcohol and drug addiction, MS, chronic pain, psoriasis, infections, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, anxiety and other neurological disorders. Clinical trials and studies are under way to validate CBD’s treatment on all these symptoms. The most common uses of CBD are to treat chronic pain, epilepsy, insomnia and to manage anxiety. This wonderful compound has great potential to cure a variety of ailments.

OK, this stuff sounds amazing, how much should I take?

In terms of dosage, general guidelines are between 1-6mg for every 10 pounds of body weight. So if you’re 200 pounds, a 20-33mg daily dose should be a good starting point. Or if you are 150 pounds, try starting with 15-25mg. Start slow and increase dosage based on severity of your aliment. This chart below will be helpful with dosage.

What form should I take it in?

We recommend taking full-spectrum, organic CBD. The vehicle you consume it through is up to you, as long as you can monitor dosage size. Oil based tinctures are popular, as are edibles, honey, topical balms and vaporizers.
