The Roots of 4/20
Although 420 events are fun, many individuals are unaware of why the number is significant to cannabis culture. The way that 4/20 started can be traced back to San Rafael, California. A group of teens would meet on the grounds of their high school at 4:20 to seek out a rumored pot farm. A Coast Guard member allegedly left behind the cannabis crop. Although it’s not known if this crop actually existed, the teens started to use “420” as a code to meet up and smoke pot after school.
The story about the San Rafael teens became well-known in the 1990s when it started being shared in publications like the “High Times.” The first known existence of a weed holiday was also in the early 1990s when groups started to celebrate all things cannabis on April 20th.
Significantly, 4/20 has become a date where advocacy groups have pushed for widespread legalization of weed. Rallies have been held over the years with groups smoking pot in public as a form of “civil disobedience.” Large-scale gatherings in New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Ann Arbor have helped bring 420 into popular culture.

4/20 Events at Silver Therapeutics
Silver Therapeutics is dedicated to celebrating 420 with our local Berwick and Portland communities. Our budtenders will be an integral part of the weekend events and will be on hand to educate you about the benefits of our cannabis strains. They will also be available for product recommendations based on your desired effects. We truly enjoy 420 because it connects us with those who are as enthusiastic about cannabis as we are!
Our recreational cannabis dispensary has locations throughout the Northeast, including our two Maine sites. Our Berwick dispensary is located at 60 ME-236 on the border between Maine and New Hampshire. Shop hours are Sunday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm and Friday through Saturday from 9 am to 8 pm.
The Portland dispensary is found in the Old Port section of town at 370 Fore Street. Located near the Waterfront section, you can enjoy the shops and restaurants in the area after your dispensary visit. You can stop at the Portland shop Monday through Sunday between 10 am and 7 pm.
