Our goal at Silver Therapeutics is to educate and coach our customers on how to effectively use cannabis for your wellness and enjoyment needs. An important piece of that is figuring out the proper THC edible dosage for you. This post is intended to offer some guidance and recommendations for the enjoyable use of edibles.

So how many mg of edibles should I consume?

There are many different types of edibles out there, such as infused food, lozenges, capsules and more, many of which you’ll find on the shelves of our store and in our Orange dispensary menu or Williamstown dispensary menu. If you are new to cannabis, or are new to edibles, always start slow and give ample time (up to 2 hours) for the edibles to take effect before considering eating more. This is the best way to avoid over consumption symptoms which can be unpleasant.

Please see the chart below from Leafly about the ideal dosage.

Considering The Effects of Edibles

It is important to consider the physiological differences between individuals when consuming cannabis as the same edible can have a different effect between people. The key factors to consider here are history of cannabis use, gastrointestinal factors and the sensitivity of one’s endocannabinoid system.

When selecting edibles, take note of the THC and CBD content of the items. The addition of CBD in a product can improve the medical benefits while THC dominate products are best suited for those who are more experienced and are looking for stronger item. Also, the addition of CBD can counter act some of the unpleasant aspects of ingesting too much cannabis, such as increased heart rate and impairment. CBD is said to partially blocks the intoxicating effects of cannabis. If you are new to cannabis and are looking for entry edibles, look for products with high THC to CBD ratios, such at 1:1., 4:1 or 10:1.

Start With A Small Dose

For first timers, we recommend starting with a dose of 1mg to 2.5mg. Edibles that can be ingested through the mouth, such as tincture, oils, lozenges, gummies, etc, are good to start with because they can be absorbed through the blood vessels in your mouth. If you are eating a cookie or chocolate, try chewing it and holding it in your mouth for a about 3 minutes.

Start small, start slow. The most common reports of over dosage occur when an individual eats a dose and does not feel the effects and then eats another does only to have both kick in later and have unpleasant effects arrive.
